Why is Career Planning Important?

Most people spend more time planning their vacations than their careers and lives. How much time and energy have you invested in figuring out what type of work best uses your skills and interests, or those of your children? The world of work has changed dramatically in the last decade. Career planning used to be a matter of getting an education, finding a job in a good company, showing up for work each day, and eventually retiring to a nice pension. For most people, those days are gone forever. Interest has become the most important trait used in occupational selection. Although personality is related to occupational choice, the strength of the relationship is not as strong as the relationship between career success and measured interest. Furthermore, due to the interplay between values, interest and ability it is only necessary to measure two of these since the third is always a function of the other two. How do we do it?

Once the decision to follow this process is made, we will register you for assessment. You will receive an email from our online assessment centre that you are activated as an Assessment User, with your login credentials and the details of accessing the assessment. Complete this as soon as possible, in English or Afrikaans, without lingering on questions. There are no right or wrong answers. This assessment typically take approximately 30 – 45 minutes to complete. After submitting the assessment we will be informed of you submission and analyze the results. We will schedule a private appointment of approximately 60 minutes with you and, based upon the results of the Career Planning Inventory, we will have identified your Fields of Interest as well as your Work Values. We focus on the top and bottom 8 values, as these have this biggest influences on work satisfaction and motivation. We will guide you towards recommended work areas and specfic jobs that will be best suited based upon your Work Values and Fields of Interest. Where applicable this will be followed by a 30 minute session where parents or guardians will join in for a final discussion on the results and the findings of both the Assessment and Consultation.
